App (iOS) Book recommendations absolutely suck

Anyone else constantly see that the promoted content at the very top of the home page is absolute garbage? Doesn’t matter how many times I’ve got to the title and downvoted, I still get extremely similar titles to it showing up at the top of home. How many times do I need to say that I’m not interested before Audible actually listens?

In general, seems like the recommendation algorithm sucks. I never actually use it to find new books now because of the uninteresting books they show me. Don’t give me an option to say “I’m not interested” if you aren’t actually going to do anything with it, it’s just a waste of my time.

Wow. Another total AUDIBLE letdown.

I posted earlier this week about confusion regarding Madeleine Miller’s latest hour long story called MESTRA and how I went from mistakenly purchasing an $.89 version of it in French, which I posted about here in this sub, and those who commented told me that they had an English copy of it, which led me to check the AUDIBLE app where I saw that there indeed was in English copy of it and what ensued was a chat thread about the varying different prices for the English version of this title.

As an AUDIBLE premium plus member my price was showing at $8.97, another commenter had a price of roundabout five dollars…

So I let a few days past to see if my price would adjust and then this morning I got on the phone with AUDIBLE and had a lengthy hard to understand conversation where I basically came away with the knowledge that each person who has an audible membership, regardless of what tier they are on is given a price based on wildly varying metrics that have to do with what state they are in within America and other metrics that are just a huge disappointment to a long standing user of AUDIBLE like myself.

The service representative actually went and looked at my Amazon Prime status. I mean it got really convoluted and the upshot of it was that they could do absolutely nothing for me. My price was going to be $8.97 regardless of my etc. etc. blah blah blah with AUDIBLE.

Sadly, this title is only available as an E book on Libby.

I have three credits left with Audible that feel like a splinter because I cannot find any titles to spend them on. I only buy titles that I know I will listen to again and I’m ultra picky about narration.

My account with AUDIBLE is on hold and I will need to use these three credits up before December

If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for reading my woeful vent about my AUDIBLE quandary

App thoughts

So I know Audible recently updated their app. Some things are great, other things are in places that make zero sense now but whatever.

What I would really like the ability to do is see what chapter I’m on in a different book than the one I’m currently listening to.

I have several books at any given time going and I have to actually start listening to that book then pause to see where I am at.

I don’t need a detailed listening log that tells me every time I play pause and stop, I need to see where I an at a glance on any book in progress.

Maybe you should do polls before you overhaul an app? Genuine suggestion. Your customers/listeners probably have better input.

Searching Titles on Apple Watch

Maybe there is something I don’t know. I have 1000 titles in my library. To download to my watch, I have to sort by title on the watch then go scrolling on the watch to get to my title to initiate the download. Is there an easier way? Why can’t they only show unfinished titles on the watch? Why does it have to be the whole library? You cant remove or archive finished titles because the series tab in the IOS app will no longer work. Suggestions?

Crammed by Nick Pirog

I chose this book for two reasons. It’s by Nick Pirog, who writes the 3 a.m. series and it seemed like a good choice with Big Brother live feeds ending. It also happens to be in the plus catalog until 10/25.
This is Pirog’s best book yet in my opinion! I couldn’t stop listening until it was over and can’t stop thinking about it now. I’m already ready to relisten just to not be done with it. Luckily, it’s going to be another series. I highly recommend it. The story follows several people who have been kidnapped and put in a giant fake Costco. Then, the kidnapper live streams them to the world. It’s very well written with the story jumping around to fill you in on the previous lives of the main characters, including the suspect of the kidnappings, and of their time in the Costco.
I’m just curious who else has found this gem of a book and what your thoughts are on it?

Technical Question Titles I purchased no longer available…

… but I can purchase the same title again. So what was I purchasing the first time and am I the only one who didn’t realize my purchase can be revoked?!

I thought of these as “books on tape” that I own.

Closed Amazon Account = Closed Audible Account (?)

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but I lost access to my Amazon account due to someone stealing my credit card information. I had to report it and I'm assuming that due to this Amazon closed my account for suspicious activity, which is fine. I've had a lot of back and forth with Amazon in the last two days of filling out the same form or waiting an additional 24 hours for them to get back to me, but I don't think this is going anywhere.

I just want my Audible account back. All of my books are there and I had credits left over. I tried calling Audible and they insist my account isn't closed that it's on hold but
Amazon emailed me twice that my account is closed.

Am I shit out of luck here? Did I seriously just lose my entire account and there's no way to get it back?

Clarification: I did NOT close my Amazon account. Amazon closed it due to suspicious activity. I didn't get a say on what action they took with my account. I just wanted to update my card information.

Audible subscription worth it?

Maybe I’m wrong but I’m struggling to justify the monthly price when you only get 1 book to listen to in a month. My job entails some days spending all day in cabs and I can go through a book in 2 days if long days, but let’s say it takes a week to finish them. I have to purchase books until I can get my other credit in 3 weeks. So if I’m buying books anyways why pay for the subscription then?

Don’t say podcasts because other apps are free if you listen to commercials and when I’m doing other things I can listen to a minute of ads. Not that impatient.

Book Discussion What audiobook gave you the most bang for your credit?

What’s the longest audiobook you have spent a credit on that was actually worth it?

For me:

Galaxy Outlaws: Black Ocean Mobius Missions — 85 hours

The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich — 57+ hours

11/22/63 — 30+ hours

All three felt like I got a lot of listening time for my credit.

What are yours?

Account blacked/can't access customer service

Hey! I tried my pw a bit too many times, got my account blocked, can't contact customer service chat, if I don't sign in (which I can't) and I live aboard so I can't really make that call either, they don't really have an email. Really frustrated coz I just got a subscription so I can just leave this account and get another.

What to do?

How do I find the original publisher when it’s listed as ‘audible’?

For classics there are a few popular versions or translations for the books I read. Some audiobooks have the publisher listed penguin or something while others just have it as audible. Is there a way to know which version they’re using? I lucked out on the one I’m listening to and got the correct version but for the future I’d rather not buy a book and have the wrong one.

Missing children. A prophet who speaks for the dead. And a powerful cabal who will do anything to keep their secrets buried.

When a mysterious stranger with a forgotten past wanders into an unmapped Georgia town, he’s suspected of being responsible for recent kidnappings. But while his ability to see a person’s final memories before death by touching their bones will help to clear his name and bring closure to the victims’ families, it also puts him square in the crosshairs of those who want to keep their crimes quiet.

Will the rich and powerful be allowed to continue their exploitation unchecked, or will the so-called prophet shine a light on generations of secrets kept in the darkness?

“Knucklebones” is a Southern fiction story set in Georgia that introduces a supernatural detective in his first thrilling, cold case-solving adventure. If you like Stephen King’s “Dead Zone,” John Grisham’s “A Time to Kill,” and the Southern-fried storytelling of Carl Hiaasen, you’ll love the first installment in Dave Trumbore’s “Knucklebones” series.

App (iOS) Stop Audible automatically hijacking Bluetooth when I get in the car?

I’ve had audible for years. Bluetooth in my car had no issue over 3 years, automatically resumed whatever the last media playing was, perfect. Now audible seems to hijack the connection every time I get in the car. Doesn’t matter that the last thing I had playing on my phone was Spotify, or YouTube, or Apple Music. Doesn’t matter that the audible app isn’t open on my phone, I made sure it’s not open in the background before getting in the car. Doesn’t matter the last thing I had connected to Bluetooth in the car was Spotify and haven’t listened to audible in a few months.

I’ve checked audible settings, automatic car mode is off, continuous listening is off. I’ve checked my phone settings, live activities and background refresh are off. WHY DOES IT KEEP PLAYING?? It’s the only app that seems to be hijacking Bluetooth when I get in the car, started about a month ago. Was there an update or something that broke it? Seriously if I can’t get this to stop auto playing every time I get in the car I’m just gonna uninstall the app, I’m in and out of the car a lot and it’s driving me bananas. Anyone come across this and have a fix?

App (iOS) Love Audible

Post image

I guess one of the main reasons why I love listening to audiobooks is because it rekindles (no pun intended) the joy of listening to stories that I had when I was a kid. I’m someone who also loves reading physical books and e-books on Kindle.

App (iOS) Just joined as a annual rather than monthly and I’ve had this message since

Post image
3 Upvotes

As title really, my renewal date was about mid month, and when I first saw this message I figured it must’ve been a glitch that’d sort itself out, but few weeks on it’s still there.

I’m not only old enough the audible trial run as I’ve had it since February 2024, and have about 300 odd books in my library. I only changed from monthly membership to annual as the deal looked better, and I’ve changed my mobile phone provider account - which shouldn’t affect any of this as the handset has remained the same.

Ermm wtf audible?

Technical Question Anyone else have nearly every other title “unavailable”? Or do they just have something against me 😅

Post image
2 Upvotes

I want to say 50% of books I get recommended are “unavailable” when I look on audible. The most annoying thing is, my sister will look up the same titles and is also using Audible US.

For example the Calamity Club is the number one book on the audible charts and I can’t buy it. I even had my sister send me the link and can’t purchase it in the app. I also tried through a browser and the title comes up but then get a “could not complete this purchase”.

This isn’t with just this title, this has happened multiple times and don’t understand why titles are available to others but not me. I wouldn’t mind if it meant I get titles from other countries that that doesn’t seem the case either, lots of UK and Irish titles are restricted to me too.

Anyone else experience this or know how to resolve it? I’ve tried logging out, changing countries and then back to the US, deleting the app and redownloading it, but since it happens when I use the browser too it must be an account issue right?
